Helping Clients overcome common obstacles
Expert EMDR, FLASH, and ART Therapies
Healing from current or past trauma can benefit from talk therapy, but sometimes, you need a little more to get over emotional barriers and mental blocks. Some traumatic wounds can live in the nervous system for decades, causing anxiety or flashbacks long after things should be resolved.
At Primacy Counseling, I offer trauma therapy through a range of evidence-backed resources, including EMDR, FLASH Technique, and ART.
Each approach focuses on bilateral stimulation (like eye movements or tapping a rhythm) to help your brain unlock and reprocess painful memories so they become less of a threat and more of a page in your own story. We don’t erase what happened; we only reframe how your brain processes the memories.
What Is EMDR?
Studies show EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy results in up to 84% remission in PTSD and related trauma. During one of our EMDR sessions, counseling will guide you through recalling challenging memories while using bilateral stimulation to activate both sides of your brain. This helps “unstick” your brain and reorganize how such trauma is stored in your body.
EMDR is best used for trauma over a range of mental health conditions, from anxiety to lack of sleep – all based on traumatic symptoms. It works with adolescents, teenagers, and adults and can be integrated into a faith-based counseling practice. You do not necessarily need to talk in detail about your trauma, but focus more on changing the emotions, thoughts, or behaviors resulting from the event.
What is FLASH Technique?
FLASH Technique is a newer approach and a branch of EMDR therapy. It offers clients a gentler approach to traditional trauma treatments. In many ways, you can experience FLASH without ever describing the traumatic memory you’re trying to manage in a healthier, more proactive way.
After you identify the trauma memory, you will introduce a positive engaging image to shift the emotional impact of your trauma. You are not replacing any of your memories or ignoring the impact they may have had, but instead, reframing them so you are no longer flooded mentally or emotionally so much that you are overwhelmed.
FLASH Technique is available for all ages and is a good fit for clients seeking faith-led trauma therapy that respects any emotional boundaries you wish to remain while still delivering positive results.
What is ART?
ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy) blends both EMDR with guided visualization. When you need therapy, this practice reduces the “emotional charge” of trauma memories. It reframes them through a new version of the event.
Clients feel more empowered and safe which effectively rewrites the relationship between the brain and the trauma. While ART therapy typically takes fewer sessions than traditional talk therapy, it is highly structured and targeted toward addressing certain triggers that often set off trauma symptoms. For some, this may mean a more intensive session.
