IBRT, EMDR, FLASH, and ART
More Than Talking About What Happened
Sometimes you understand what happened to you, recognize how it affects your life, and still struggle with the emotions, reactions, or relationship patterns associated with those experiences.
Trauma-related distress can affect how we think, feel, experience our bodies, and relate to others. Meaningful treatment may require more than insight alone.
At Primacy Counseling, I use an individualized, integrative approach to trauma therapy that incorporates Integrated Bioenergetic Restoration Therapy (IBRT), EMDR, Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), and the FLASH Technique.
These approaches serve different purposes and may be used individually or in combination when clinically appropriate.
IBRT: Integrated Bioenergetic Restoration Therapy
IBRT brings together emotional, physical, cognitive, and spiritual dimensions of therapeutic work.
Rather than looking only at the events that occurred, we also consider how those experiences may influence your emotional responses, bodily awareness, beliefs, identity, and relationships.
IBRT is an important part of my integrative approach and may be combined with other trauma-focused interventions according to your needs and treatment goals.
EMDR: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing
EMDR is a structured psychotherapy used to help people process distressing memories and reduce trauma-related symptoms.
During treatment, we identify relevant experiences and associated beliefs, emotions, and reactions while using bilateral stimulation as part of the established EMDR protocol.
The process is collaborative and tailored to your readiness and treatment goals.
ART: Accelerated Resolution Therapy
Accelerated Resolution Therapy incorporates structured techniques, including eye movements and guided imagery, to help clients work with distressing memories and their emotional impact.
ART may be appropriate for clients who want to address specific traumatic experiences, distressing images, or triggers within a focused therapeutic framework.
FLASH Technique
The FLASH Technique is a trauma-focused intervention designed to help reduce the distress associated with difficult memories. It uses a positive, engaging focus and specific therapeutic procedures to help clients approach distressing material with less immediate emotional overwhelm.
It may be considered when a client needs a carefully paced approach to working with painful experiences.
How I Choose the Right Approach
No two people have the same history, symptoms, or therapeutic needs.
Our work may include:
- Exploring the emotional and physical responses associated with distress.
- Identifying beliefs and patterns connected to earlier experiences.
- Processing specific traumatic memories with an appropriate modality.
- Developing healthier ways to respond to triggers and relationship challenges.
- Integrating Christian faith when requested.
IBRT provides an integrative framework for considering the whole person, while EMDR, ART, and FLASH offer distinct trauma-focused methods. We will discuss which approaches best fit your circumstances rather than assuming that one method is right for everyone.
Christian Trauma Therapy Without Spiritual Pressure
For clients who desire it, I integrate Christian faith into the counseling process. We can explore questions of identity, grief, shame, forgiveness, and spiritual struggle without minimizing the emotional effects of trauma.
You do not need to have everything figured out before beginning therapy.
