counseling is what I do
Decades of experience as a Christian therapist
I understand you need to choose someone that you can relate to and trust intimately with some of the most serious conversions and events of your life. Take your time and read about my specialties.
Efrain Rodriguez, LPC, ART, EMDR-T
I’m a Christian who wants to help other high-functioning but emotionally disconnected Christians break out of emotional shutdown caused by unresolved trauma–without losing their faith!
I’ve been counseling for over 30 years and use EMDR, ART, and FLASH Technique to help in this regard.
Personally, I’ve been married for 34 years to the love of my life. We have three adult children and one grandchild. Although not born here, I call America my home. My family escaped communism long ago, and I grew up with the awareness of how precious freedom is, and especially with regards to my faith in the God who offers complete freedom from the sins and suffering that have shaped us.
Why Choose Me
Struggling with a personal mental or emotional issue is challenging. Sometimes we need more than a listening ear from a family member or friend – we need wisdom from the professional support of someone aligned with our values.
I help clients overcome barriers to move forward in strength, grace, and purpose. I help Christians, whether navigating a faith crisis, struggling in their marriage, or stuck in addiction.
I also blend biblical truth with evidence-based therapies. I provide meaningful insights and measurable results that help with everything from managing anxiety to addressing lifelong trauma responses.
“Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved, for you are my praise.” -Jeremiah 17:14
Primacy Counseling offers a distinctly Christian focus. The name, “Primacy,” refers to the place that Christ holds in my life personally as owner of Primacy Counseling, as well as to the hope that exists for true healing.
I seek to help clients heal both horizontally in their relationships with others as well as vertically in their relationship with God.
Important Things You Should Know
QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Not at all. People who ask for help know when they need it and have the courage to reach out. Everyone needs help now and then. In our work together, I’ll help you explore and identify your strengths and how to implement them to reduce the influence of the problems you are facing.
The difference is between someone who can do something, and someone who has the training and experience to do that same thing professionally. A mental health professional can help you approach your situation in a new way– teach you new skills, gain different perspectives, listen to you without judgment or expectations, and help you listen to yourself. Furthermore, counseling is completely confidential. You won’t have to worry about others “knowing my business.” Lastly, if your situation provokes a great deal of negative emotion, and you’ve been confiding in a friend or family member, there is the risk that once you are feeling better you could start avoiding that person so you aren’t reminded of this difficult time in your life.
Medication can be effective but it alone cannot solve all issues. Sometimes medication is needed in conjunction with counseling. Our work together is designed to explore and unpack the problems you are experiencing and expand on your strengths that can help you accomplish your personal goals.
Because each person has different issues and goals for counseling, it will be different depending on the individual. I tailor my therapeutic approach to your specific needs.
Unfortunately, this is not possible to say in a general FAQs page. Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length of time counseling can take to allow you to accomplish your goals depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek counseling in the first place.
I am so glad you are dedicated to getting the most out of your sessions. Your active participation and dedication will be crucial to your success.
